“The Christine Marie Hunter Cancer Fund for African American Senior Citizens”, is designed to help ailing elders, by providing a monetary gift to said seniors. Inspired by her late grandmother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer, Nikki Wade founded The Christine Marie Cancer Fund for African American Senior Citizens in 2001, to financially assist African American seniors, with their various medical needs, as related to their condition. Being the primary caregiver for her grandmother through the duration of her illness, Nikki saw first hand how difficult it was to pay for certain necessities, that weren't covered by insurance and Medicare (i.e. prescriptions, transportation, treatment, etc.). Not to mention, sometimes even being unable to pay for small life luxuries, like simply buying a hamburger, going to a movie or other essentials, like grocery shopping.
